Snoring & Sleep Apnea Therapy

Because You Deserve a Good Night’s Sleep

Did you know that snoring is a symptom of a potentially serious health condition called sleep apnea? Sufferers of snoring and sleep apnea often awaken bleary eyed and combat grogginess, irritability, and foggy-headedness throughout the day. If you experience these symptoms, we encourage you to attend a sleep apnea assessment at Allen Dental Center. You may be one of the millions of Americans who beat snoring and sleep apnea with non-invasive oral appliance therapy.

Sleep Apnea: What is it?
Sleep apnea is defined as recurring lapses in breathing for 10 seconds or longer. When oxygen flow stops, the brain senses trouble and tells the body to breathe. Many sleep apnea sufferers enter a lighter sleep stage following each apnea episode. Some awaken entirely. Either way, the result is impaired daytime function and increased risk for health complications and accidents in the workplace or on the road.

The causes of sleep apnea include excess weight, enlarged anatomical structures, a tongue that blocks the throat during sleep, and air passageways that relax and fall in on themselves. When passageways are blocked, the sound we know as snoring occurs as air attempts to force its way out.

Customized Care
Dr. Jeff or Dr. Steve will evaluate your symptoms and try to determine the cause of your snoring and sleep apnea. They may refer you to a medical doctor for a sleep study and confirmed diagnosis. Many patients who come to us complaining of a lack of restful slumber and/or snoring find the relief they crave with an oral appliance that holds the jaw slightly forward to keep air passageways open. The dentist will customize your sleep apnea and snoring prevention device to ensure a comfortable fit and optimal function. Then we’ll monitor your progress to ensure healthy, restful slumber and an end to sleep apnea and snoring.
