At Allen Dental Center, our passionate team enjoys thoroughly educating our patients on all of the services we offer. Since Dr. Brad is hosting a seminar on gum grafting this month, we are excited to share more about this special procedure and how it can help you achieve your dental goals.
Is Gum Grafting right for you?
How do you know if you might need gum grafting? Is your tooth root more exposed than usual? Are you becoming sensitive to cold foods and beverages? Have you noticed your gum line pulling back? Are your gums around your tooth more easily irritated? This can be caused by various factors, one of which is the clenching and grinding of your teeth. Many of us are not aware that we clench or grind our teeth. This can occur while you sleep or due to stress during the day. Putting too much pressure on your teeth while you brush is also a cause of gum recession.
If you have noticed this happening in your smile, it is a great time to consider gum grafting! Don’t delay! The longer the decline happens, the harder it is to achieve a more predictable result. Gum grafting is the best procedure to help patients fix their gum recession and restore their smiles. It can also improve the appearance of a patient’s smile.
So how does the gum grafting procedure work?
There are several types of gum grafting. Dr. Brad uses donated connective tissue called Alloderm. No cells or blood are remaining in this tissue. This method involves very conservative microsurgical techniques that do not require the gum to be cut open.
This method of grafting is usually the easiest to recover from with most patients feeling back to normal within a week or two with very little discomfort!
If one of our dentists mentions that a gum graft may benefit you, there is no reason to be anxious! The procedure itself is pretty simple, and you will be able to go home directly following it. Your dentist will give you specific care directions following your surgery. Give Allen Dental Center a call at (972) 727-3941 if you are interested in learning more or scheduling a consultation!
